Kelly Schnurr
Kelly Schnurr is a multidisciplinary artist and mother of two living in Buffalo, NY. She merges her design background with fine art practices to capture the element of discovery and self-growth; using nature as her source of inspiration. After graduating from SUNY Fredonia with a BFA in Graphic Design, she spent 10 years living and working in NYC. In 2016, she moved back home to Buffalo with her growing family. Kelly loves re-discovering her hometown, seeing familiar landscapes with a new perspective, as well as traveling and exploring new places; collecting memories and inspiration along the way.
My work is inspired by detailed observations in nature. Whether I am painting abstract landscapes and florals, designing surface patterns, or building up mixed-media collage and sculpture, botanical elements are the common thread of connection. Material exploration is an integral part of my process as my work responds to seasonal rhythms. Traditional materials like gouache and watercolor combined with foraged collections, paper clay, embroidery and other repurposed fibers allow my creations to grow into figments of my fantasies. I explore themes of maternal lineage, memory and place as a way to appreciate a passage of time; translating my stories into universal moments of reflection.
