Avalene Musik
Avalene is a self taught trans artist born in Buffalo, NY , coming from a background in animal welfare and philosophy, she began creating art as a hobby. She found this love for art was much more a passion than pastime. As of this year she started creating in her own studio, allowing her to explore new mediums. Avalene has now been creating art for over two years and plans to make this a lifelong career. Using each piece as a teaching tool to create the next. She allows her emotions to move fluidly through her art, always attempting to invoke particular sensations of emotion. Her greatest aspiration, inciting her audience to feel the same emotions she feels when creating art.
Representation of marginalized communities is always a concern of mine when it comes to all industries, but by participating in this residency I hope to represent those who feel muted and unheard. I aim to foster a sense of understanding and community through my time at Hunt Gallery, helping shift the perspective some may have about trans people. The themes that I often revisit: home, time, disappointment, disruption and gender; will all be fleshed out in both an aesthetically pleasing and thought provoking sense. With a journal full of ideas and eager hands, I want to convey my emotions and experiences as articulately as possible through my art. I want my audience to feel what I have felt, or at the very least understand what I have felt
